Corcoran Jr. her father, was a skilled worker throughout Corcoran's childhood. At times, the family depended on free food delivery from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as a man who occasionally consumed too much alcohol and did her mother a disservice and condescension, particularly when he was drinking. Corcoran struggled through her schooling and later discovered that she had dyslexia. She attended the local Catholic elementary school before beginning the high school system in St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran was a failure in several courses in her freshman year, transferred to Leonia High School. There, she received a D.
