Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official of the United America. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported health reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
